Danger kick off home schedule against Wichita Falls

The Nebraska Danger open their 2015 IFL home schedule this Saturday night against the Wichita Falls Nighthawks. The Nighthawks travel to Grand Island for their second ever game in the Indoor Football League. They fell to the Colorado Ice last week in Colorado 37-13. Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at the Heartland Events Center.

The Danger kicked off the 2015 campaign with a 57-32 victory in Green Bay, Wisconsin against the Blizzard. Both teams battled some first game jitters, combining for 6 total fumbles. Jameel Sewell finished 12-for-26 for 114 yards through the air on the night.

Sunday's game with Green Bay came down to a pair of goal-line stands by the Danger Defense that gave the offense time to put their early fumbles behind them and start putting up points. The Blizzard had jumped out to a 13-9 lead at the end of the first quarter in part because of a fumble returned for a touchdown.

"The game went pretty much exactly how we predicted it would go," Danger coach Mike Davis said. "We thought our offense would take a little time to start clicking, so we told the defense that they needed to make some stops to give us time to get things rolling. The guys put their early mistakes behind them and did what they needed to do."

Wichita Falls opened their 2015 season — their first indoor game in franchise history — with a 13-37 loss at Colorado. Quarterback Marcus Jackson was 11-for-21 for 155 yards on the night. The Nighthawk's kickoff team didn't need any time adjusting to the indoor game; holding the Ice to -13 yards on a pair of kickoffs.

"Wichita Falls should provide a good battle for us," Davis said. "Their defense held last season's Most Valuable Player to only 37 points. In indoor football, that is not very much. If their offense gets rolling, Saturday should be a very good game."

A new addition to the Danger this season, Waymon James, led the team in rushing with 68 yards on 16 attempts. Sewell also accounted for 54 yards rushing on nine attempts. James will not be in action Saturday, as the Danger will start another new rookie at running back, Robbie Rouse.

Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Saturday night at the Heartland Events Center. Doors open at 6:00 with pre-game activities beginning at 6:30.

Tickets for Saturday night are available at area Pump & Pantry stores, the Heartland Events Center Box Office, or via Ticketmaster. The game will be broadcast live on 2DayFM 103.1, or streamed live at www.2dayfm1031.com

Following the game, an autograph party with Players and Coaches will take place on the Danger turf.
