In a game that will have major playoff implications at the end of the season, the Cedar Rapids Titans are set to visit Grand Island for the first time on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm at the Heartland Events Center as the Danger will be having Pink Out Night to benefit cancer research.
The Danger (4-1) look to get back on track after a long trip to Kennewick, Washington where the Danger fell to the Tri-Cities Fever 67-59. The loss snapped a four game winning streak and perfect record, the Danger's best start to a season in franchise history.
Friday's game against the Fever was an offensive shoot-out where neither defense could hold down the opposition for long. The Danger's only defensive stop was on the opening drive of the game.
"Our defense started the season great, but we weren't able to gain any momentum in Tri-Cities," Danger coach Mike Davis said. "Our guys were pretty banged up at the start of the game, but we have to get some stops to give our offense a chance to get ahead."
After not recording a catch against the Iowa Barnstormers, Kayne Farquharson had a big night with six receptions for 52 yards and four touchdowns. Jameel Sewell threw for 179 yards and rushed for another 69 yards. Waymon James was named the IFL Special Teams Player of the Week for his 202 all-purpose yards, including a 48-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
"Offensively, we had a good night," Davis said. "If we can get our offense and defense to both play well on the same night, we would be very dangerous. This team has a lot of potential; we have to keep working on the little things to have another shot at winning the United Bowl."
This week will play a major factor in the race to the United Bowl. Cedar Rapids also comes to Nebraska with a 4-1 record, with their only loss coming at the hands of the reigning IFL champion Sioux Falls Storm.
The Titans feature multiple all-IFL caliber players. Bryan Pray is tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns (8) while Jermiah Price leads the league in sacks (6.5).
Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Friday night at the Heartland Events Center. Doors open at 6:00 with pre-game activities beginning at 6:30.
Tickets for Friday night are available at area Pump & Pantry stores, the Heartland Events Center Box Office, or via Ticketmaster. The game will be broadcast live on 2DayFM 103.1, or streamed live on IFLLive.TV
Following the game, an autograph party with Players and Coaches will take place on the Danger turf.
