Danger take on Blizzard in first of back-to-back games

The Nebraska Danger return to Grand Island for a home game against the Green Bay Blizzard on Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at the Heartland Events Center, with the Danger currently tied for the lead in the Intense Conference with the Spokane Empire at 2-0 on the season.

The Danger had an extra day to prepare this week after toppling the Cedar Rapids Titans last Friday in a wild 78-71 victory. The win looked to be assured after the Danger defense recorded their second safety on the night, giving the Danger a 71-51 point advantage with only 5:12 to go in the game, but the Titans quickly converted both a fumble and an on-side kick recovery for touchdowns to close the lead to only 6 points. Danger quarterback Jameel Sewell responded with a 9 yard touchdown run with 1:16 to play, which ended up being the deciding score after the Titans managed to get one final touchdown in the final minute of play.

"Sewell's play was huge for us tonight," Danger coach Mike Davis said. "He really started to connect with our receivers and had some big runs for us at the goal-line to finish drives. Our entire offense really stepped up and showed what they are capable of."

Sewell had 10 completions on 14 passing attempts for 174 yards and 4 touchdowns. O.J. Simpson and Regginald Lewis Jr. led the Danger receivers with 94 and 49 yards respectively and two touchdown receptions each. Lyle McCombs had 14 rushes for 43 yards while Sewell added 14 rushes for 34 yards and 4 touchdowns.

"We had some really good plays on defense, but we need to be more consistent. There are a lot of improvements that we still need to make, but I like where we are headed as a unit," Davis said.

Green Bay is 0-3 this season, but has started the season with a very tough schedule. The Blizzard dropped games at Cedar Rapids and at Iowa before returning home last week to take on the Sioux Falls Storm. The Blizzard pulled within 2 points of the Storm at the end of the 3rd quarter before the Storm were able to pull away at the end.

Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Saturday night at the Heartland Events Center. Doors open at 6:00 with pre-game activities beginning at 6:30.

Saturday is Tackle Cancer Night! Come out to support the Relay for Life in their fight to cure cancer.
